Future of Back in my Play

First off, thank you for your support of the show. Personally I am doing great and in high spirits. Loving work and what I am doing in life. Was just little tired when I recorded this. Anyways, here is a brief message (not really) about the future of Back in my Play:

    Hey Kevin,
I don’t normally comment on stuff cause frankly I’m terrible at being social. I just wanted to give you a shout out and say whatever may happen with the show, thanks for all the episodes so far. I work from home as a freelance illustrator, it can be hard to focus on work sometimes so I always try to have a podcast going to keep my mind entertained while I chip away at work. Back in my Play has been one of my favorite and go to podcasts for over a year now.
While I’ve been missing the show during the hiatus I completely understand it all comes down to you at the end, you have to do what you have to do. I get that, I have personal projects that I have let slide because after I’m done with work I just feel like relaxing or playing video games. One of these day’s I’ll get full steam into them but yeah, if you aren’t excited about the work, might as well let it be for a while. I really don’t know where I’m going with that. Hopefully sometime soon you’ll be feeling back into it, but take all the time you need to do what you have to do. If you ever do make more Back in my Play I’ll definitely be here to listen to them while I draw whatever I have to be drawing for work that day. Anyway, thanks again for the shows, you are appreciated man!

Kevin, you don’t need to apologize for anything. We all go through patches where we need to take a break and reevaluate things. If you’re not feeling inspired or excited by something then there is nothing wrong with taking a step back (or step away). I can say from experience (both professionally and personally) that the best thing to do when you feel this way is to take a break with no regrets. Ignore the negativity you mentioned (if they don’t contribute constructively to a discussion then let them chase their own tails) and find enjoyment in your life in other things. I hope you find a way to renew your original enjoyment of BIMP and produce more, but I for one totally understand if you take time away. Just know you’ve done a great job and that a lot of us have gotten so much enjoyment from hearing you and your guests’ passion for games. Take care, and best wishes!

I just wanted to say that I love the show and I look forward to when, and if, it returns. I came to the show pretty late so I’m sad to see that there won’t be new episodes regularly. Just know that me and my friends over here in Sweden really enjoy your positive outlook on games from back in our play!

Hey Kevin, I’m sad to hear that you don’t have plans for the show to continue, but I do understand why based on what you stated in this recording. This has become my favorite podcast since you started it. I’ve been going back and listening to old episodes again recently. You’ve inspired something in me since I’ve become a listener. I wish you luck in your professional career, and look forward to a day that you might pick the show back up. Thanks for all of the hard work you’ve put into it so far.

Kevin, I sure have enjoyed your show and appreciated the enthusiasm and positive vibe you brought to the show. You mentioned the show feeling stale and I’ve got to tell that, for me, the show was always better when you and Josh Hillyer were doing episodes together with one other guest. I think you and Josh had a good chemistry, with the third (and sometimes fourth) guest able to bring a different enough perspective that the conversation remained lively and interesting. Sometimes I thought the conversation dragged on when it was just you and one other person, especially when you were talking about a more obscure game. I think what you need is a group of folks who commit to keeping the show alive. Most other podcasts I listen to are structured this way. Anyway, I hope your career in fitness continues to take off. Maybe we’ll hear from you again someday. I’ll check in from time to time.

This isn’t on the iTunes feed just so you know, I only knew to check because it was mentioned on the p1podcast. I guess maybe because that would’ve effected the patreon…?

Anyways I think if you’re just waiting for a hundred people or whatever to sign up for the patreon you’ll never do the show again. So if you want to do it again just do it because you want to and play the games you want to play.

I will say as a listener, it’s more fun to listen and participate and interact with the show when you cover a game that’s easily accessible on virtual console, psn, or whatever. I don’t have the money or physical space to be collecting retro game stuff. Wish I did but I don’t, and I know I’m not the only one. If anything there are more people like that. We still love retro games, but playing them on the virtual console or whatever is just fine.

And I’m with you about the negativity in games right now. But I’ve just learned to filter it. I really only listen to p1p, yours, and actually believe it or not the ign podcasts keep it very positive, especially NVC. I stay away from other websites and podcasts and so I barely hear or see the negativity anymore. And even if I do, what else can you do but just brush it off, laugh it off even. There will always be people like that. So you either can let if effect you or not. It’s your choice really.

And so I will be sad to see BimP go, as it was truly, every episode a show just about games and having fun with them and how they can give you a smile or feeling of accomplishment.

I’ve been playing games since I was a toddler and I’ve defintely had periods where I didn’t play video games. Doesn’t mean that I “grew out of it” because I became an “adult”. Sometimes you just don’t feel like playing a game and rather read a book or focus on something else for a bit. That’s ok. So I hope you don’t think that you’re too much of an adult to play games. On the contrary, it’s adult of you to take a break and come back when you’re ready.

I’ve been listening to the show for the last couple weeks, and I just heard what was going on from P1P. I really appreciate the positive attitude of the show, and the care you put into the episodes. It shows in the musical breaks when the recordings you have are always top quality and get my head bobbing along. I especially loved the NGPC episode, and you got me to break down and buy one after years of waffling! I don’t regret it one bit.

Anyhow I subbed at the 5$ level on your Patreon. Hope the show comes back and you find the spark of interest you’ve had before in gaming.

Kevin, your comments really resonated with me. I’m 35, a graphic designer, married, and active (my wife and I like to run half/full marathons). I have a long commute daily and a busy career and in spite of all this I do occasionally find time to weave in my gaming habit. Nonetheless, I go through periods of my life where I don’t touch the numerous games/consoles I own because there are more important things and little time. DON’T do the podcast if you don’t have passion for it. Your enthusiasm and positivity for games reignited my love of retro and gaming in general. I really hate to see my favorite podcast go away. Hope you come back man – God bless.

And FYI – I for one did not see the dip in show quality you speak of. The Mike Mika, Blake Harris, and Masters of Doom episodes were amazing, what retronauts should be. I’ve got several more great books under my belt because of those shows. Thanks!
