Video: Professional Video Monitors (The Best CRT for Retro Gaming)

Many know me as the biggest proponent of the XRGB-Mini Framemeister. But, at the end of the day, nothing is going to beat the picture you will get from a CRT when you hook up your retro consoles. With that being said, there are varying levels of quality when it comes to CRTs from the consumer level to the professional level. That is where the Sony Professional Video Monitors (PVM) come in. These monitors are/were used for video production to get perfect color and picture quality. Back in 1998, the PVM I am going to be talking about retailed for $1500! For a 14″ monitor!

Today I got lucky, finding a Sony PVM-14M2U for $50 on CraigsList. The owner was a video producer that no long had a use for it as most video shot today is 16:9 and there are better space saving options.

Nice find! I got one free last year from a studio who wanted to get rid of items from their basement. But I have yet to use it. Still using my Samsung GXTV. 🙂
